The “why” of the project
Join us in rewriting history as we embark on the transformative journey of reviving Windhoek’s most iconic landmark - the Alte Feste.
Built-in 1890, this historic structure has witnessed Namibia’s colonial legacy and its triumphant path to independence. Now, it’s time to breathe new life into its weathered walls, to convert neglect into vitality.
Why should the Alte Feste project matter to you? Because it is not just about bricks and mortar; it’s about honoring the complex history and shaping our collective future.
This building may not have served all Namibian people in the past, but this new plan, holds the potential to turn trauma into healing.
The Alte Feste stands as a silent witness to Namibia’s journey - from the shadows of colonialism to the dawn of independence. The blueprint of this building was conceived by Captain Curt von François with an intention for it to serve as the bastion for the imperial German Schutztruppe during the German colonization of South West Africa. It has undergone many changes and served various purposes in its lifetime and now is set to curate a blend of the past and present.
The Alte Feste Project isn’t just about renovating a building; it’s about reclaiming our narrative, celebrating our culture, and igniting economic prosperity. It is a canvas upon which we can paint our aspirations for tomorrow.
